The Civil War 150 Legacy Project : Document Digitization and Access…07.29.11
29 07 2011“The Civil War 150 Legacy Project : Document Digitization and Access is a joint project between the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission. The Legacy Project is an endeavor to collect, digitize and make publicly accessible historically significant, never before seen, original Civil War materials located in Virginia and held by private citizens. Donors have the opportunity to bring materials to scanning events held in their communities; have those materials scanned and evaluated; and return home with their items that same day. These images will be added to a free searchable collection maintained on the Library of Virginia web site accessible via the Internet. Renee Savits (Eastern Region) and Laura Drake Davis (Western Region) coordinate the Project. This video describes the Legacy Project and shows scenes from a scanning event.”

Save the Troy, Michigan Public Library…07.22.11
22 07 2011From BoingBoing:
“Steamed Punk sez, ‘The Troy,Michigan Public Library will close unless the citizens pass a dedicated millage. Normally this would be no big deal, here in Troy there is a well financed group that ruthlessly undermines the efforts of library supporters. Forty years ago Issac Asimov, E. B. White and other supported the newly opened library with letters to the kids encouraging them to make the most of the library. With your help the people of Troy can enjoy the library as Asimov, Suess, and other intended for years to come!’ “
