Creating Digital Llibraries – Digitization Program Update Stats…04.25.12

25 04 2012

What have I been doing for the last 2 years?

In the beginning of 2010, I was hired to create a digitization program to create subject-specific digital libraries.

Working with a programmer from our IT Dept. to create proprietary database software based on a Dublin Core-type metadata scheme and image capture/processing software, it took one year to plan, prepare and launch a digitization program.

Our website is currently in the design phase with an outside contractor.

With 1 librarian and 2 part-time book scanning technicians using modified BookDrivePro book scanners, the following has been accomplished (actual book scanning began March 2011):

9,648   Total Books

3,097   Book Subjects

936,434   Book Pages

3,948,777   Total Page Images

4,943,274   Files in 179,273 Directories - 3.07 TB of data

Digitized Items by Original Format Type

2,705   Paperback

699   Hardcover

228   Newspaper

5,900   PDF

2   Text only

81   Image

112   Paper
