“On April 18-19, 2013, the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) will bring together librarians, technologists, creators, publishers, innovators, students, government leaders, and others interested in building a national digital library to the Boston Public Library in Boston, MA to celebrate the launch of the DPLA prototype, conclusion of the two-year planning initiative, and start of the new organization.

Convened by the DPLA Secretariat at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society and co-hosted by the Boston Public Library, the two-day DPLA Launch will include a brief working day on Thursday, April 18th, followed by a formal reception featuring presentations and a series of interactive exhibits showcasing content from our many partners, including the Digital Hubs and Europeana. On Friday, April 19th, the DPLA will convene a focused half-day plenary meeting highlighting the DPLA’s progress and potential…”

Registration for the DPLA Launch is required and is free and open to all.

 

1] Digital Hubs and Board Meetings, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, April 18, 2013
Boston Public Library, McKim Building, 230 Dartmouth Street, Boston, MA 02116
Registration will begin at 2:00 PM. We ask that you arrive at the Boston Public Library (230 Dartmouth St. entrance) no later than 2:45 PM to sign in and pick up materials; please note that we will only be able to accommodate those who have registered in advance.

[2] Launch and Reception, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, April 18, 2013
Boston Public Library, McKim Building, 230 Dartmouth Street, Boston, MA 02116
The reception will begin in the Popular Reading Room at 5:00 PM; presentations will commence at 6:00 PM. For those attending just the reception, registration will take place in the Map Room Cafe, directly adjacent to the Popular Reading Room. Please note that we will only be able to accommodate those who have registered in advance for the launch and reception.

[3] Public plenary meeting, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, April 19, 2013
Boston Public Library, Johnson and McKim Buildings, 230 Dartmouth Street, Boston, MA 02116
Registration and breakfast will begin at
8:00 AM in the Popular Reading Room in the McKim Building; please enter through the 230 Dartmouth Street entrance. Signs and DPLA staff will lead guests to the Rabb Lecture Hall, located in the adjacent Johnson Building. We ask that you arrive no later than 8:45 AM to sign in and pick up materials; please note that we will only be able to accommodate those who have registered in advance.

[4] Video and Audio Recording
The working meetings, presentations at the reception, and plenary meeting will be recorded; these recordings will be broadcast and posted online.

[5] Laptops and Mobile Devices
We encourage you to bring laptops, mobile phones, tablets, and other devices to tweet, blog, and otherwise engage in online conversation about the event (the hashtag is #dpla). Free wifi will be available, though mobile service may be limited within the library.  Please be advised that power outlets within the event space are limited. We will have charging stations available, and we ask that you charge your devices before arriving.
